Hiking: The 80-mile Foothills Trail meanders through the Jocassee Gorges as it winds from Table Rock State Park to Oconee State Park. Particularly popular for backpacking, the entire Foothills Trail takes four to seven days to hike. Several shorter trails also originate on the property, including a 2.6-mile trail accessing the Eastatoee Creek Heritage Preserve, a 1.7 mile trail leading to the Lower Whitewater Falls, a 1-mile trail accessing Coon Branch Natural Area, and a 0.5-mile trail at the Bad Creek Hydroelectric site. In addition, all access roads within the wilderness preserve can be used for hiking.

Some areas of the gorges are better suited for less-experienced hikers. Other areas should be strictly reserved for only the most skilled adventure-seekers. Maps, compliments of Duke Power, can help you plan a hike that is suitable for your skill level. Whatever your capabilities, remember that it's always safer to explore the gorges with a friend!
