The Strom Thurmond Institute documents the distinguished career of
our nation's oldest and longest-serving senator, the Honorable J. Strom Thurmond, class of
1923. Accessed from Perimeter Road and located just behind the library, the Institute
frequently sponsors lectures and programs on matters of public interest. Inside, priceless
pictures, documents, letters, and memorabilia of Thurmond and other great leaders can be
found, along with the University's Archives. The institute also houses the Graem Yates
Collection of Presidential Portraits depicting 39 presidents.
